Born in 1995 in the French Jura countryside, lives in Vevey
Marlène Grand is a Swiss visual artist based in Vevey. A graduate of the CEPV photography school in Vevey, she uses traditional photographic processes, such as lensless cameras and film, to create images that reveal a certain sensitivity both in their physical materiality and in Marlène Grand's worldview. She works primarily with the fundamentals of photography: light and photosensitivity.
Through her work, she addresses subjects related to humans and the natural environment, based on the notions of time, place, matter, and imprint. She incorporates natural elements as integral tools in her creative process, with water being a recurring element.
In her creative process, Marlène Grand attaches great importance to taking the time to observe with awareness and presence what connects her to nature in her immediate environment. With the idea that “everything around us is in a state of perpetual change, we can only fully grasp the present moment.” It is through this approach that her work takes shape, established by instinct, exploration, contemplation, emotion, and movement.
Since completing his studies in 2022, Marlène Grand has participated in three artist residencies abroad, in Portugal, France, and Italy. Mono-Lisboa, L’endroit de L’envers residency, Lama- Residenze.
She is an active member and president of Espace Indiana, an independent space dedicated to visual arts in Vevey, and a member of Near, the Swiss association for contemporary photography.
